Chapters to explore

Words such as frustrated, relieved, proud and uncertain can describe feelings more precisely. Notice the situation and possible body signals without assuming everyone reacts the same way. Naming a feeling can help explain what support you need.

Try it: Choose precise feeling words for fictional story situations.

Friendship includes interest, respect and room for different opinions. Use clear words about your own experience and listen to the other person. A friend does not have to agree with every choice. Seek help when behaviour is hurtful or unsafe.

Try it: Practise a calm sentence about an imaginary friendship problem.

Permission should be freely given and can be withdrawn. A previous yes does not mean yes forever. Respect words and signs that someone wants to stop. If unsure, pause and ask. Boundaries apply to belongings, images and personal contact.

Try it: Role-play asking permission and respecting a changed answer.

Some surprises are temporary and enjoyable. A secret that makes someone worried or unsafe should be shared with a trusted adult. You do not have to protect a harmful secret. Keep seeking support if the first person cannot help.

Try it: Discuss the difference between a birthday surprise and a worrying secret using fictional examples.

Responsibility includes noticing the effects of our actions and helping put mistakes right. An honest explanation and practical repair are useful. Some problems need adult help. Learning from a mistake is different from blaming yourself for someone else’s harmful behaviour.

Try it: Plan a fair repair for an imaginary shared-materials accident.

A game’s rules can be adapted to support participation. Consider space, equipment, communication and roles. Ask participants what helps. Fair competition and cooperation both depend on respect, and a score does not measure a person’s worth.

Try it: Adapt a gentle game with an adult and review participation.

Everyday routines can support wellbeing, but needs differ. Seek advice about health concerns from a parent, carer or qualified professional. Online tips are not automatically reliable. Do not compare bodies or treat one routine as suitable for everyone.

Try it: Discuss who helps with everyday wellbeing questions at home.

A simple plan lists what is available, what is needed and what remains. Prices and resources affect choices. You can compare options without judging other families. Saving means keeping some resources for later.

Try it: Make a pretend spending plan using tokens, not real financial details.

People can belong to several communities at once. A person may share some traditions with a group and practise others differently. Ask open, respectful questions and allow people not to answer. Avoid treating a single person as a spokesperson for everyone.

Try it: Draw a private map of communities or activities that matter to you.

Learning together

Each chapter brings together teaching, an example, practice and a practical discovery. Use the material with discussion and suitable offline activities. Choose a comfortable starting point and revisit explanations as needed.
